In this month's "Extracting Value Series" the Certainty 3D team will demonstrate how TopoDOT® tools and workflows can be used to take your road DTM surface to the next level of precision. Traditional survey techniques provided cross sections at 25, 50 or even 100 feet intervals. LiDAR data and TopoDOT® took those models to the next level of precision with cross-sections extracted automatically at any desired interval; typically 10 feet or less. The problem is that not every pothole, break or rut can be described using 10 foot cross sections. Now new TopoDOT® tools and workflows will automatically yield a road surface that captures every pothole, rut and break in the road surface using the fewest points possible. The resulting DTM surface is very "light" yet extremely detailed. This unique capability will continue to give our customers a competitive advantage keeping them at the forefront of LiDAR technology.
This month's webinar will focus on TopoDOT tools associated with the "Assessment" component of MAeX workflow. The demonstration will feature TopoDOT's new "Flight Line Assessment" tool applied to mobile LiDAR data. See how quickly this new tool compares the relative alignment of multiple point cloud data sets acquired during multiple passes along a corridor. This will be followed with a brief review of TopoDOT's "Point Cloud to Data Analysis" tool. This two step highly automated process establishes a direct lineage between the data and survey control. Another new tool, "Path Deviation Assessment" compares any line to the point cloud surface identifying and reporting any deviations. Use this tool to "Assess" the point cloud against a design feature such as a road alignment. This tool is also used to assure the quality of extracted line features and is ideal for a quick spot check to Assess the quality of an extracted model.

In this demonstration you will see detailed point clouds and models of pre-fab bridge beams accurately aligned within the virtual design.
